Deljew Harris Obituary

 

Deljew Douglas Harris was born on October 19, 1982, in Ahoskie, NC.  He joined First Baptist Roduco Missionary Baptist Church at an early age where he accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior.

Deljew was educated in Gates County Public School System and Graduated in 2001. He attended Livingstone College and later earned an Associates Degree in education from Craven Community College.

Deljew was employed with Craven County School System and later Orange County School System. After moving to Winston Salem, NC, he was employed and retired from Forsyth County General Services where he worked with the Sheriff Dept. and Forsyth County Detention Center.

Deljew was a true artist and enjoyed teaching his son to draw. He loved watching movies, sports, walking and catching Pokémon.  He loved people. You were a stranger until the first time he met you. After that Deljew was your friend.

Deljew leaves to cherish his memory his children Shakira, Deljew Jr., and Xavier:  his father Roosevelt Harris; his parents, Tracy and Antonio Nowell; five brothers Evan Powell (Kim), Patrick Harris, Stavon Powell, and Tyrus Powell all of Winston Salem, NC; Justin Powell of Gates, NC; his step-sister Lavonna Williams of Chesapeake, VA; Terence “TJ” Gatling his “brother-cousin” and Zakkiyyah Bennett his “sister-cousin” both of Winston Salem, NC; His loving grandmother, Leatrice Powell (his “Sugar”) of Gatesville, NC; three aunts Robin Gatling (Ted) of Sunbury, NC; Peggy Boone (Buck) of Suffolk, VA; and Joyce Outland of Elizabeth City, NC; four uncles Stuart Powell of Winston Salem, NC; Douglas Powell of Gatesville, NC; Lance Powell (Barbara) of Hertford, NC; and Robert Harris Jr. (Pam) of Gatesville, NC; great uncles, great aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and a brother from another mother Steven Lawrence of Eure, NC. 

 

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday March 23, 2019 at 1:00pm at St. John AME Zion Church.  His final resting place will be at First Baptist of Roduco.  The family will receive friends and members of the community on Friday March 22, 2019 from 4:00pm-7:00pm at the funeral home.
