Akeem Maurice Pretlow “Keem” was born in Ahoskie, NC to Larry D. Boone and Adell Pretlow Boone on July 24, 1984. Our Heavenly Father called him home on January 13, 2023.
Akeem was a member of Blanchards Grove Baptist Church and joined at a young age. Akeem attended the Gates County School System for all of his school years. He graduated from Gates County High School in 2003. He was a member of the Gates County High Varsity Basketball Team. Akeem began working at the Newport News Shipyard in 2008 until his early retirement in 2021. Akeem was joined in holy matrimony to Cynthia Brooks in July 2011. Akeem enjoyed cooking and entertaining friends and family at his home in Newport News, Virginia. He was well loved by everyone. He enjoyed playing pool, spades and Corn Hole with anyone who visited. Akeem loved spending time with his boys and adored his granddaughter Sophie. Akeem had a big heart and would help anyone he could.
He is preceded in death by his grandparents Bonnie and Helen Boone, Sr (Gates), Geneva and Edward Pretlow (Belvidere), aunts; Mable Dillard (Gates), Helen Boone (Gates) ,June Hope Wilson (Hobbsville), uncles; Patrick Boone (Gates), Bonnie Boone, Jr (Gates), Grafton Boone (Gates), and Robert Wilson (Gatesville).
He leaves to cherish, celebrate, and continue his legacy his loving wife Cynthia Pretlow (Newport News), his mother Adell Pretlow-Boone (Gatesville), father Larry D. Boone (Gatesville), three sons Jyrion Boyce (Elizabeth City), Isaiah Walton (Gatesville), Darnell Pretlow (Newport News), one daughter Makaylah Seward (Newport News), one granddaughter Sophie Boyce (Elizabeth City), one brother Antrone Pretlow (April) of Raleigh, one sister Kenyada Pretlow (JB) of Greenville, one god-brother Kerron Jenkins (Gatesville) two uncles; Fentress Pretlow (Belvidere), Hardie Spruill, Jr (Elizabeth) of Gatesville ;two aunts; Mary M. (Gates) , Audrey Eason (Hobbsville), three nephews; Jahzeer Baker, Tristan Pretlow, Kai Pretlow, and one niece; Sabraya Baker, four great aunts as well as a host of cousins and friends who dearly loved him
A viewing and visitation will be held at the funeral home on Friday January 20, 2023 from 4:00pm-7:00pm at the funeral home. A celebration of life will be held at Gates County High School on January 21, 2023 at 1:00pm.
