Arthur Delana Woods, age 86, of Eure, NC passed away May 29, 2024, at ECU Health Roanoke Chowan Hospital after a long illness. Arthur, called Sunny, was born to Sandy and Georgia Woods May 25, 1938, in Helm, MS. He was raised by his maternal grandparents, Andrew and Isabell McNeil along with his siblings, Addie (Deceased), David (Ella), William (Ladine), and Melvin (Athalee) Woods, all who reside in Chicago, IL.
After moving to Chicago, IL he attended Du Sable High School and worked in a shoe store shining shoes. Later he joined Local #19 ILA, International Longshoremen Association. He was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1962 and was stationed in Fort Eustis, Va. He was deployed to Vietnam in 1965 for 13 months.
After moving to North Carolina in 1975, he joined Local #1248 ILA in Norfolk, Va., and worked until retirement in 1999.
He was joined in holy matrimony to Helen Dent Woods on September 14, 1963. To this union three children were born. Arthur leaves cherished memories to his loving wife, Helen Dent Woods; his three children, Adrienne Knight (Samuel) of Elizabeth City, NC, Kerold Woods (Jill) of Huntington, IN, and Kevin Woods of Waco, TX; grandchildren, Gabriel, Zane, Zoe, Zander, and Zada, a great grandchild, Grayson. He also leaves to mourn a host of relatives, friends, coworkers, and church family.
A viewing and visitation will take place on Friday June 7, 2024, at the funeral home from 4pm to 7pm
A celebration of life service will be held on Saturday June 8, 2024, 1pm at St. John Community Christian Church.
Arthur Woods final resting place will be at the serene St. John Community Cemetery, where he will be laid to rest among the community he cherished and served so faithfully.
