Barbara D Hines

Barbara D. Hines was born on January 14, 1965, in Suffolk, Virginia. She was a lifelong resident of Gates, North Carolina, and a proud Canaan Missionary Baptist Church member in her adult years. Barbara was the daughter of the late Annie Virginia Harris and the late Finnie D. Hines, Jr. She was the eldest of all of her siblings.

Barbara D. Hines transitioned peacefully at 11:25 a.m., June 19, 2022, at Southside Medical Center. Barbara is now with her mother, father, and all that preceded her in death. To all who knew Barbara, she was intelligent, kind, caring, and loved wholeheartedly. She believed that everyone could succeed and had a right to an excellent education. Barbara helped many people while here on this Earth. She fed, educated, and loved intensely. Barbara believed in tough love. Barbara received her college education at Elizabeth City State University, where she received her Master of Elementary Education and Bachelor of Science In Computer and Information Sciences. She graduated with honors and became National Board Certified.

After graduation, in August 2000, she began her career as an educator. She worked in Hertford County Public Schools. She served in the capacity of a 5th grade Reading Teacher at Ahoskie Elementary School. She was creative, dedicated, caring, Innovative, motivated, and passionate about teaching children to ensure they were successful. She was a great communicator and encouraged her parents to get involved in their children's education. She held many titles at Ahoskie Elementary School including, English Language Arts Chair, Multi-Classroom Leader, School Improvement Team Chair, Lead Mentor, and one of her most rewarding accomplishments, Teacher of the Year for 2020-2021.

Barbara was predeceased by her mother, Annie Virginia Harris (Gates, NC), and Finnie D. Hines, Jr. (New York City). She is survived by her daughter, Monique D. Harrell-Watford (Brian), Monique's father and lifelong friend, Bobby L. Harrell; sister, Angie Harris-Ramseur (Micheal); brother, Alfonzo Harris, Jr (Dawn); sister, Heddie Alston Somerville; brother, Todd Lavell Routh; grandchildren, Alexander Watford, Christopher Watford and Darion Watford; nieces, Jalyn M. Ramseur and Winter A. McMannen; nephews, Alfonzo Harris, III, David Ray Harris, Joshua M. Ramseur and Kamron Autin Somerville; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, godchildren, other relatives, and friends.

A viewing and visitation will take place on Friday, June 24, 2022 from 4:00 pm - 7:00 pm. A Celebration of life will take place on Saturday, June 25, 2022 at 11:00 am at Canaan Baptist Church, Ahoskie, NC. Ms. Hines final resting place will be at First Baptist Gates church cemetery.
