Calvin Coolidge Hall Brooks Jr. was born on April 20, 1961 to Marian & Calvin Brooks Sr. He was raised in Pennsylvania by Marian and late husband Claude Goodman. He was the oldest of his siblings and took on the big brother role with honor and pride. At a young age Calvin gave his life to the Lord, then rededicated himself again later in his adult life at Upper Room Assembly Church. In 2006, Calvin moved to North Carolina where he served as an employee at Butchers Best Meats, Brindley Beach, and Pizza Hut. Calvin was a dedicated worker and provided effective customer service with a pleasant attitude to all.
His dedication to others, outpouring of love, attention and sense of humor earned him the name “Pops”. His wisdom and knowledge was his power and he didn’t mind sharing with anyone. With him there was no judgement only sound advice, prayers and open arms. His aura gave a sense of peace and security. The life of any room he stepped in. Pops was an avid Eagles fan and he would be sure to let you know at any given time. He enjoyed reading his bible daily, barbecuing, playing with his dog, collecting gadgets, hanging with the bikers, spoiling his grandkids, but above all else spending time with his family.
Calvin Jr. leaves to cherish his memories parents; Marian and Calvin Brooks Sr., brothers; Claude, Keith (Robyn) and Gregory (Natasha), and sister; Gail. His children Calvin III, Claudette (Derrion); their mother Darleen, and Jazmine (Aharon); her mother Kimberly. Bonus children Bryanna, Shard’e, Cassandra, Rhonda, Shawna, Michael & Torey. His beloved dog Chaos. 14 Grandchildren Justin, Marcus, Azzure’, J’Yanah, Calvin IV, Elaysia, DeKinzie, Jaron, Brielle, Leelah, Javi, Mila, Surge & Ajani, who lovingly call him “Pop-Pop”. Friend & loving Gigi Tracey Carr. Nephews and nieces; Jamey (Lindsay), Zakary (Rosie), Khristian (Leandra), Gabryelle, Khatrynha, Kiana, Cayla, Bryanna, Teala, Isaiah, Calvin, Kevin, Jordan, & Marlina. Mentor to Denzell Williams. A host of aunts, great nieces and nephews, cousins and extended family and friends. It was important to Calvin Jr. that his family knew he genuinely loved them and was proud of them.
Calvin Jr. was preceded in death by his son Jordan, grandson Shaun Mason Brooks, Aunt Grace Curry, and Dad Claude Goodman.
The pain we feel from losing Pops can be soothed by the memories he left us with. Isaiah 43:1 “Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by your name; You are Mine.”
