Charles Edward Wilkins, Sr. was born on September 15, 1957, to the late Charlie and Willie Mae Wilkins. He transitioned from his earthly life on October 24, 2025, at Sentara Obici Hospital, Suffolk, Va.
Charles attended Gates County High School. On January 21, 1983, he married the love of his life, Julia R. Riddick, and together they shared over 42 beautiful years, raising three children from their union. Charles cherished his family deeply and found his greatest joy in spending time with them, especially his grandchildren.
To some, he was known as “Charlie,” to others, “Mutt,” but to his family he was always “Top Notch” — because in their eyes, he truly was the best of the best.
He attended Piney Wood Chapel Missionary Baptist Church in Drum Hill, NC as a youth and sung in the choir. Later in life he joined Word of Reconciliation Church in Elizabeth City NC and served as a faithful deacon and usher. He was a God-fearing man and loved to share his faith with others.
Charles was a dedicated worker at Ashton Lewis Lumber Company for over 35 years. He loved outdoor activities and enjoyed cutting grass and washing his cars.
He was a diehard Washington Redskins (Commanders) fan, and he loved chocolate peanuts and Pepsi. He was kind and loving and could talk to anyone about anything. He had a smile that was contagious.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents, Willie Mae and Charlie Wilkins.
His memories will forever be cherished by his wife, Julia; sons, Charles Wilkins, Jr., Corey Wilkins (Brittni), Charles Hart (Rebecca) and daughter, Courtney Wilkins; brother, Altoria Wilkins; sisters, Edna Baker (George), Patricia Wilkins, Doris Saunders (Tony), Willie Wilkins, Faye Baker (Tyrone), Peggy Wilkins; grandchildren, Cayden, Jayla, Alexis, Lauren, Jolia and Christian; Mother in law, Sarah R. Riddick; sisters-in-law, Angela Baker, Sarah Smith (Louis); brothers- in-law, Ronnie L. Riddick (Patricia), George Riddick; aunts, uncles and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Visitation will be held on Friday, November 7 from 4-7 pm at the funeral home.
Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, November 8 at 12 noon at Word of Reconciliation Church, Elizabeth City, NC
Mr. Wilkins final resting place will be at Riddick/Dildy Family Cemetery, Hwy 37, Gates
