Clarence Harrell Obituary

Clarence Harrell was born to parents of Martha Knight and the late Hewitt Knight on November 6, 1963, in Brooklyn New York. He was educated in the New York school system at Alexander Hamilton High School.

After graduation, he  began working at Brighton Meadows in Brooklyn, New York. From there, he joined the Navy in October 1984 and served until October of 1992. He was very proud of the time he served, always talking about his naval ship, the USS   Yellowstone (AD-41). Clarence then moved to Norfolk ,VA and held many jobs until he moved to Gates County, NC.

After the move Clarence worked at Perdue until he stopped working to help take care of his mother. In 2021 Clarence’s health declined and he was called home on September 15, 2023.

To know Clarence was to love him. He enjoyed joking around, dancing and singing even though he could not, he still did it. He also had a deep love for his jewelry and music. Clarence will truly be missed.

Clarence leaves to cherish his memory his mother, Martha Knight; Son- Clarence Couch;  Daughters-Sharell Harrell and Champagne Lee; his sisters- Kim Odugbile, Grace and Krystle Knight and his only brother, Lloyd Knight; Aunts- Barbra Wright, Joann Williams and Willie Mae Artis, a special friend and caretaker, Minnie Leary, and special friend, Monique McDonald. He also leaves a host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

A celebration of life will be held on Thursday September 28, 2023, 1pm at Upper Room Assembly Church, following the service Mr. Harrell and his family will be escorted to Albert G. Horton Veterans Cemetery in Suffolk, Va. for military honors and final committal rites.
