Eddie Goodman Britt
A Life Remembered, A Legacy Cherished
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of a beloved soul whose presence graced the lives of many. Though no single tribute can fully encompass the breadth and the depth of a life well-lived, we gather here to celebrate memories, honor achievements, and reflect on the indelible mark she leaves behind. In crafting this obituary, we hope to illuminate the journey, the passions, and the cherished connections that defined Eddie G. Britt.
Eddie was born on October 8, 1941, in Corapeake, NC. She was the ninth child born to the late William Herman Goodman and the late Hester Costen Goodman of Sunbury, NC. Eddie graduated with the first graduating class of Central High School, Gatesville, NC in 1959. She was the Captain of the Cheerleading Team and she was also a member of the school chorus. She loved music, dancing, growing flowers, sewing and family, especially children, was everything to her.
Upon graduating, she held various employment positions, beginning as a Housekeeping Lead at Norfolk General Hospital in Norfolk, VA. She then transitioned to Cornet Casuals in Portsmouth, VA. Eddie ultimately retired, as a manager of several school staffs, with the Gates County Child Nutritional Service, after 25 years of honorable service.
Eddie joined St. John AME Zion Church at a very early age and remained as a lifetime member. She was a faithful member of the Deaconess Board, the
St. John Gospel Singers, the Missionary Board and the Senior Choir. She prided herself in decorating the church pulpit and vestibule areas with flowers and assisted in many other areas of the church as needed.
Eddie was united in marriage with Jessie L. Britt, Sr. on December 23, 1961. From this union four children were born: Jessie L. Britt, Jr. (Gladys) of Greensboro NC, Ashley E. Britt (Jacqueline) of Summerfield, NC, Cheryl D. Britt of McLeansville, NC and Ruby L Britt of Sunbury, NC. Seven grandchildren: Shamara Britt (deceased), Carlos Britt, Jessica Britt, Toshira Britt, Edward Britt, Dominick Britt (Taesia) and Jada Britt and four great grandchildren: Mariah Britt, Matthew Graves, Kendall Britt, Kalia Britt, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
