Edward L Hathaway

Saturday, December 16, 2017, before the break of day, GOD dispatched one of HIS HEAVENLY angels to come rescue our dear father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, Edward Lee Hathaway. Edward Lee was born on March 23, 1944, to the late George and Julia Hathaway.

He was a member of New Piney Grove Missionary Baptist Church. He enjoyed cooking and spending time with his grands and great-grandchildren, hunting, fishing, playing pool and cards. He would help anybody he possibly could.

Edward was employed with Bundy Logging of Gatesville and Ledbetter Septic Services of Suffolk, Va for several years. He loved working in the logging business. Many of days he said, “If his health would let him that he was going back to Bubbas”.

On February 6, 1965, he was united in Holy Matrimony to the late Shirley Mae Hall Hathaway. To this union, one child was born.

He leaves to cherish a legacy of love and everlasting memories to his son, Anthony Hathaway, Sr., of Gatesville; a devoted granddaughter, Alronda Hathaway and grandson, Anthony Hathaway, Jr., of Sunbury, NC; three great grandchildren, Jauhiem and Aaliyah Boone of Sunbury, NC and Zanadiya Harrell of Edenton, NC who were the “apple of his eyes”; one brother, George Hathaway (Diane) of New Jersey; six sisters, Elizabeth Spruill (Hardy) of Gates, Brenda Knight (Michael) and Julia Walton (James) of Gatesville, Gail Rodgers (Ronald) of Gates, Mary Ann Johnson (George) of New York and Mildred Powis of New Jersey; one brother-in-law, Elder Elton Hall, Jr. (Mary) of Gatesville.

A special daughter, Vanessa Johnson (Calvin) of Sunbury; special friends, Chavis Baker of Sunbury whom he called  “his buddy”, and Michael (Lois) Holley of Gatesville and a host of nieces,  nephews, cousins, and many friends.

 A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday December 22, 2017 at 1:00p at New Piney Grove Missionary Baptist Church.  His remains will be laid to rest in Hall Family Cemetery.  A viewing and visitation will take place on Thursday December 21, 2017 from 4:00p-7:00p at the funeral home.
