Elizabeth Harvey Obituary

An Extraordinary Life Remembered

Elizabeth (Boone) Harvey was born March 1, 1933 in Franklin, Virginia to Clarence Boone and Sarah ( Hall ) Boone.  She had four older siblings: Kate Ann, William-Augustus, Andrew J. Sr. and Delaware. After attending elementary and middle school in Virginia, she went to live with cousins Katherine and David Smith, Sr. in Brooklyn, NY to attend high school.

She attended the prestigious Fashion Institute of Technology in NYC after high school, where she studied fashion, design and fabrics.  After graduating FIT she began her fashion career working for numerous independent fashion design firms in NYC.

In 1982 she took her love of fashion, design and retail to the next level; Entrepreneurship. She opened “Elizabeth’s Boutique’; a women’s retail and custom clothing shop in Mount Vernon, NY. Elizabeth quickly became successful in the retail business, not just because of the quality of her products and work but  because of her kindness, warmth and infectious smile. Over the next 12 years she would develop a devote following of loyal customers, that always looked for the “ lady with the beautiful smile”!

In 1994 Elizabeth packed her bags and moved back to her family roots, settling in Sunbury, NC,  She established a custom clothing and alterations business. Keeping the community always looking their very best brought her such joy and great fulfillment. Elizabeth became an active and dedicated member of St. John A.M.E. Zion Church, shortly after moving to  Sunbury, and remained so until her death.  She was a member of the Choir and Hospitality Committee.. She was the church’s Health Coordinator and was consecrated as a Deaconess in 2016. She was also a very dedicated member of the “ Order of the Golden Circle”. Her love of family, friends, God and community was always the driving force behind everything she did.

Elizabeth made her final journey to be with the Lord on February 14, 2019. She is preceded in death by her parents: Sarah and Clarence, her sister; Kate Ann, her brothers; Delaware, Andrew J. Sr., and William-Augustus and her nieces: Geraldine Odom and Virginia Littlejohn. She is survived by: her daughter; Ingrid Harvey-Brown,  Son-In Law; Antonio Brown, Grandson; William Gomez,  and a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and many close friends and acquaintances.

A child of God, strong in her faith, Elizabeth touched the lives of all those who knew her in such a profound way. As we mourn her passing, we can take comfort in the fact that she is now at home with her God. We hold on steadfastly to our wonderful memories of a person known for her grace, beauty, kindness, and fierce independence.
