James Allen Cross

James Allen Cross, 79, was born on March 27, 1938 to the late Daisy Blanche Cross and Arthur Gatling. He departed his earthly life on Thursday, November 30, 2017 at his residence.

He was married to Yvonne Knight Cross on August 29, 1966 and to this union five children were born.

Dedicated to supporting  and providing for his family, James was employed as a truck driver with Gates Poultry Farms for numerous years.  He raised livestock and was well known throughout the community for his large hog killing celebrations.

James was preceded in death by  seven brothers, Thurman Cross, Howard Boone, Alvin Boone, Bradley Gatling (BD), Arthur Gatling, Jr., Hollis Boone, and Roland Cross, two sisters, Vivian Barnes and Evelyn Jones.

Left to cherish his precious memories is a loving wife of 51 years, Yvonne Cross; two daughters, Sharon Cross Goodman of Sunbury and Patricia Cross of Gates, three sons, James M. Cross (Rachel) of Capital Heights, MD, Derrick Cross of Sunbury, and Mark Cross of Gates; 11 grandchildren, six great grandchildren, one brother, Thomas Boone (Angenita); seven sisters,  Bertha Boone (Bonnie , Jr.), Margaret Cross (McEll),  Janice Boone, Rita Brinkley (Benjamin), Peggy Goulet (Robert), Mary Odell Boone and Georgia Hicks; two sisters-in-law, Carla Boone and Joyce Knight Young, two brothers –in-law, William Knight (Barbara) and Ronald J. Knight (Barbara), along with a host of nieces, nephews,  cousins, and friends.

Celebration of Life will take place on Wednesday, December 6, 2017 at 1:00p at New Piney Wood Chapel Baptist Church, 1109 Drum Hill Road, Gates, NC. Viewing will be held on Tuesday, December 5 from 4 - 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
