James A. Figgs, Jr., was born on August 1, 1962 to the late James A. Figgs, Sr. and Irene R. Figgs. He peacefully entered into eternal rest on June 9, 2019.
James joined St. Peters Church of Christ Disciples of Christ and remained a member until his death.
He attended and graduated from Elizabeth City Public School System. His working career was with FedEx for 20 years. He thoroughly enjoyed his hobbies of his love for music, fishing and he was a devoted Dallas Cowboys fan. He also enjoyed spending quality time with his family.
Along with his parents, he was also preceded in death by three brothers: Robert, Philemon, and David Figgs.
He leaves to cherish his precious memories, his loving and dedicated wife of 10 years, Hilda Jean Figgs; seven children, Sabrina Williams (Antonio) of Elizabeth City, Tasha Hunter (Fred) of Durham, NC, James A. Figgs, III and Autavius Figgs of Elizabeth City, Chris Helmick of West Va, Ebonie Hunter of Newport News, Va, and Quamayne Privott of the home. Grandchildren, Jasier, Remo, and Jabari; five brothers, James W. Figgs (Linda) of Elizabeth City, Terry Figgs (Sarah) of Swan Sea, SC, Allen Figgs (Gloria) of Glassboro, NJ., Paul Figgs (Jacqueline) of Elizabeth City, and Gilvon Figgs (Juanita) of Elizabeth City; four sisters; Patricia Figgs Holley of Hertford, NC, Irene Figgs Harper (Tyrone) of Elizabeth City, Murine Figgs Poole (Kenneth) of Hampton, Va, and Verily Figgs Mclendon (Timothy) of Upper Marlboro, MD. Special In-laws, Sam and Bernice Eason; sister-in-law, Thelma Figgs and two brothers-in law, Lonnie Wilson and Carless Wilson. Special friends, Eric and Tim Mclendon, Kenneth Poole, Aisha Parks, and Calvin Leary. A god daughter, Shemire Brown. Also sharing in his memories is a host of aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends.
A celebration of life will take place on Sunday June 16, 2019 at 2:30pm at St. Peter's Church of Christ.
