James "Tee" Holley Obituary

James Carlton Holley, affectionately known as TEE was born on June 21, 1935 in Chowan County and peacefully departed from this life on November 17, 2023. He was born to the late Joseph Holley and Mary White Holley.

On October 6, 1956, James joined in matrimony with Daisy Louise Jordan, and their enduring union blessed them with four children, as well as adopting a son. His love extended beyond his immediate family, as he also embraced the responsibility of raising a beloved niece.

James began his journey in Gates County attending school, later as a farmworker, and eventually working at a screen factory. His dedicated work ethic led him to Tenneco NNS and, ultimately, the Norfolk Naval Yard, where he dedicated years of service until his well-earned retirement in 1995.

A pillar of faith and commitment, James was an active and devoted member of Blanchard’s Grove Missionary Baptist Church. His spiritual journey was marked by faithful service as a deacon. He served in various capacities at the church until his health began to fail him. Beyond his church community, James was a member of Jephthah Lodge 174 for over 40 years.

He was a man of style, known for his impeccable attire and love for purchasing elegant suits paired with matching hats. A diligent worker, James found joy in maintaining his yard, which remained impeccably manicured throughout the year. He also harbored a deep passion for fine automobiles.

Preceding James in death are his four children; James Reginald, Sr., Wallace Eugene, David Wayne and Patricia Annette, two brothers; Melvin and Horace; four sisters, Mary Holley, Martha Leach, Velma Rascoe, and Hazel Johnson, sister-in-law; Mildred Holley, brothers-in-law; Charlie Rascoe and Milton Leach, Sr.

Cherishing his memory are his devoted wife of 67 years, Daisy Lousie Holley; his son, Crandall Holley (Christina), 12 grandchildren; James Reginald Holley, Jr. (Gertrude), Eshimon Wayne Holley, Sr. (Lekisha), Yolanda Williams (Milton), Sheria Holley, Cameron Holley, Koran Holley, Kyla Holley, Omari Holley, Christian Holley, Cierra Lane, Marcus Holley, Jaden Heaton; 26  great grandchildren; six great great grandchildren, two brothers Herman Holley (Doris J.) and Warren Holley; a special niece whom he raised, Paula H. Walker, (Charles), a special family friend, Frances Stewart, along with many other relatives, cousins, and friends.

As we reflect on James’ life, let us remember the legacy of a dedicated husband, father, deacon, and friend. His love, hard work, and enduring spirit will forever remain in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing him.
