Jason "Jay" Harvey Obituary

Jason “Jay” Scott Harvey was born on March 31, 1983 in Fairbanks, Alaska to the late Alfred Scott Harvey and Delretha Boone Harvey Jones.

Jay transitioned to be with the Lord on November 12, 2023.

He was one of four children, educated in the public school systems of Gates County, NC and Newport News, VA. He was a graduate of Heritage High School, Class of 2001. After graduating, he attended St. Augustine’s University in Raleigh, NC. Later, Jason obtained his Commercial Driver License and spent several years in a fruitful career as a long distance driver.

Jason enjoyed watching sports, fishing, cooking, and playing chess. He was a huge fan of the Philadelphia Eagles football team. He was an avid reader and enjoyed traveling. In his final years, Jason rededicated his life to the Lord and found fulfillment in ministry outreach and volunteering. What brought Jay the most joy was quality time spent with family and those closest to his heart. Jason loved life and lived it fast. Jay lived a life filled with joy, laughter, and inspiration, touching many hearts along his journey. His loss will be felt deeply by all who were blessed to know him, especially those who were moved by his wit, wisdom and passion for life. Known for his vivacious personality and vibrant sense of humor. His sense of humor was infectious. Jason was like salt, flavoring every room he entered. To know Jason was to know a Man of God with a heart of gold!

He was preceded in death by his father Alfred Scott Harvey, Paternal Grandfather William Harvey, Maternal Grandparents Dennie and Carrie Boone. Aunts Cheryl Harvey, Minnie C Boykins, Stacey Harvey, and Beverly Harvey.

Jason leaves to cherish his memories, his mother Delretha Boone Harvey Jones and step father Kevin Jones. his two children, Dallas J’Sean Kendall and Brooklyn Lavonia Harvey-Kendall; one brother, Jamille Harvey; two sisters, Shannon Harvey and Sherelle Holiday; one step-sister Value Jones; Affectionally known as ‘Uncle Mook Mook’ to his two nieces, Jalliyah Harvey, Kimora Raikes; three nephews, Taveon Raikes, Donovan Raikes and Christopher Holloway; his significant other Janae Mitchell, bonus daughter Miracle Mitchell. He also held a special place in his heart for his Auntie-Mom Deidre and Uncle Larry whom he highly esteemed and gleaned from as he matured and grew in ministry, as well as a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

A viewing and visitation will take place on Wednesday November 29, 2023, at the funeral home from 4pm to 7pm.

A celebration on life service will be held on Thursday November 30, 2023, 1pm at True Gospel Ministries Church in Suffolk, Va.

A private internment for the family only will be at the Boone Family Cemetery.
