Jimmy Reed Dillard Jr. 62, passed away , Sunday, September 3, 2023 at Sunnyvale Baylor & Scott Medical Center, Sunnyvale, Texas.
He was born July 6, 1961 in Edenton, to Jimmy and Frances Copeland Dillard. He was a 1979 graduate of Chowan High School and attended Southwest State University, in Marshall, Minnesota prior to enlisting in the United States Army. Jimmy served his country faithfully from 1984 until retirement in 2005. This afforded him the opportunity to travel and form many lifetime and special bonds with his fellow soldiers. Jimmy continued to work for UPS and the Department of Veterans Affairs upon retirement from the military.
During Jimmy’s tour of duty with the military he earned the following medals/badges: Army Commendation Medal(3rd Award), Army Achievement Medal(7th Award), Army Good Conduct(5th Award), National Defense Service Medal(2nd Award), Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Humanitarian Service Award(2nd Award), Non-commissioned Officers Professional Development Ribbon with Numeral 2. Service in Haiti: Operation Restore/Uphold Democracy Joint Task Force, Award service Ribbon/Overseas Service Ribbon(2nd Award), Sharpshooter Marksman Qualification Badge with Grenade Bar, Marksman Markmanship Qualification Badge with Rifle Bar, Air Assault Badge, and Army Label Button.
At an early age Jimmy joined Warren Grove Missionary Baptist Church.
Jimmy was a devoted husband, father and family-oriented man. He enjoyed fishing, board games, cooking, riding his bike, and watching a great movie. He also enjoyed the occasional playing of jokes on people.
Jimmy is survived by his wife Chantal Dillard of Forney, Texas, son, Dominic Dillard(Andrea), Houston, Texas, daughters, Bianca Dillard, Battle Creek, Michigan, LaNia Dillard, Silver Spring, Maryland, and Laci Dillard, Manassas Park, Virginia. Two granddaughters, Aaliyah Barnett, Battle Creek, Michigan and Alexis Reed Dillard (yet to be born), Houston, Texas, Mother, Frances Copeland Dillard, Edenton, North Carolina, sister-Lorraine Dillard-Murrain(Byron), Asheboro, North Carolina, brothers-Norris Dillard(Eldorado) Plymouth, North Carolina, Antonio Dillard(Sana) Kuwait City, Kuwait. Nephews-Byron Murrain II, Greensboro, North Carolina, Micha Dillard, Asheboro, North Carolina and Antonio Dillard Jr., San Antonio, Texas, Great nephews-Cameron Dillard, San Antonio, Texas, Kaden Murrain, Asheboro, North Carolina and Great nieces-Lydia Jones-Dillard, Greensboro, North Carolina and Kindle Dillard, San Antonio, Texas. Aunt, Shirley Spivey, Raleigh, North Carolina, Uncles, James Dillard, Boston, Massachusetts, Walter Copeland(Shelia), Newport News, Virginia, Henderson Copeland, Boston, Massachusetts, and William Copeland (Melvina), Edenton, North Carolina and a host of other relatives and friends.
A viewing and visitation will take place on Monday September 11, 2023, from 3pm-6pm at the funeral home.
A Celebration of life service will be held on Tuesday September 12, 2023, 2pm at Warren's Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Edenton, North Carolina.
