Monday, June 1, 2026, Joe Outland, Jr., was called to rest at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, Norfolk, VA.
Joe Jr., (Flip Jack) was born on March 21, 1947 in Gates County to the late Joe Outland, Sr., and Louvenia Walton Outland. He was the seventh child of 17 siblings. He was preceded in death by four sisters: Minnie Mozell, Laura Wiggins, Ethel Lee Outland, and Winfield Outland; eight brothers: Nathaniel Sr., Leslie, David, John Henry, Robert, Willie, Raymond and Charlie.
He grew up in Gatesville, NC where he attended the public schools. At an early age, his niche was always being close to his family and spending time with his brothers. It wasn’t long before he followed in their footsteps and worked in logging during the majority of his life.
He leaves behind two children: Tiffany and Randy residing in Forida. Also to cherish his memories are four sisters: Mattie Walton, Chesapeake, VA; Rosa Harrell (Eugene) and Cora Outland, Hobbsville, NC; and Stella Riddick, Gates, NC; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
A viewing and visitation will take place on Wednesday June 10, 2026, at the funeral home from 3pm to 6pm.
A celebration of Life service will take place on Thursday June 11, 2026, 1pm at Lebanon Grove Baptist Church.
