Kirby Kenny Knight was called home to be with the Lord on August 10, 2023 at 11:47 A.M. Kirby was born on May 30, 1951 to the late Lonnie and Julia Knight.
Kirby is preceded in death by his six brothers: Curtis, Lonnie, Lindale, Stanley, Carlton, and Samuel Knight. He attended Gates County Public Schools and graduated from Roanoke Chowan Community College where he received a degree in Business.
Kirby believed in hard-work and dedication in which he joined the Army and served in the Vietnam War. After the military, he began his career at the Newport News Shipyard for two years, and then transitioned to Norfolk Naval Shipyard. He retired in 2013, dedicating his tenure of service for more than 41 years at the Norfolk Naval Shipyard, in which he was a class A welder and supervisor.
On June 8, 1970, Kirby married Christine Boone and raised three children: Jacqueline Riddick of Hampton, VA, Tammy Manning of Gates, NC, and McKinley B. Knight (Jewal) of Angier, NC.
He also leaves to cherish his memories, two sisters, Bernice Morris (Dallas) of Augusta, GA and Wanda L. Ralph (Nick) of Gates, NC; ten grandchildren, Damaion Gatling (Shavonne) of Hampton, VA, Anthony Jones of Atlanta, GA, Ashley Highsmith (Maurice) of Fayetteville, NC, Kirby T. Knight of Gates, NC, Demarche Williams (Viridiana) of Seattle, WA, Darius Montgomery of Benson, NC, Antonio Jones (Aaliyah) of Raleigh, NC, Jayla Jones of Hampton, VA, Aaliayah Knight of Angier, NC, and Adonna Knight of Angier, NC; twelve great-grandchildren, two sisters-in-law, Landria Saunders (Thomas Saunders, Sr.) of Gates, NC and Malinda Hodges (Lewis) of Portsmouth, VA; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and devoted friends.
A viewing and visitation will take place on Wednesday, August 16, 2023, between the hours of 4pm and 7pm at First Baptist Church of Roduco.
A Celebration of Life service will take place on Thursday August 17, 2023, 1pm at First Baptist Church of Roduco.
Final Resting place will be at the church family cemetery.
