Lewis McKinley Wilkins affectionately known to family and friends as “the Ghost” was born in Bertie County on November 12, 1946 to the late George Wilkins and Nettie Lee Wilkins. He departed this life on Tuesday, April 3, 2018 at Vidant Roanoke Chowan Hospital. Lewis was a faithful member of Mill Neck Baptist Church of Conway, NC until his demise.
He received his education from C. G. White. Lewis was employed with Newport News Shipyard and the Perdue Sawmill in Cofield, NC. Lewis life love was being a truck driver. He was employed at Van Cleef in Waverly, VA. Lewis loved to travel and gatherings with family and friends. He will truly be missed.
Lewis leaves to cherish his memories four sisters; Evelyn Wilkins, Callistine Wilkins, Nettie Carey, all of Ahoskie, NC, and Ruth Wilkins of Raleigh, NC, one brother, George Wilkins of Ahoskie, NC, and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, friends, and a special friend, Julia Whitaker.
A celebration of Life will take place on Sunday April 8, 2018 at 2:00pm, at Calvary Baptist Church 600 N Catherine St. Ahoskie, NC 27910. The burial will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery. Family will receive friends on Saturday April 7, 2018 at the funeral home from 3:00pm-5:00pm.
