The third eldest out of 10 children, Lois Hope Walton was born August 11, 1939 to the late Viola Rountree of Chowan County. She entered eternal rest on Tuesday, August 30, 2022.

Lois attended Chowan County Schools. She was a wonderful homemaker who also worked as a teacher at Loving Care Daycare Center. Additionally, she was employed with Gates County Public Schools. Passing by her house, she was often seen sitting in the front yard with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren working on a crossword puzzle and drinking a nice cold Pepsi.

Lois joined Welch’s Chapel Church at an early age. She served as the director of the Youth Choir and the Sunshine Band. She also sung in the Senior Choir. Lois was a member of the Senior Citizen’s Group. She also sponsored the Golden Girls Pageant.

Lois was married to Harvey Lycurgus Walton better known as “Kirk” of Gates County, North Carolina. To this union, they were blessed with eight children.

Preceding Lois in death was her son, David Rountree; two brothers, Lewis Rountree and Floyd Rountree, and a daughter-in-law, Anthenate.

Lois is survived by six daughters, Linda Riddick of Sunbury, NC, Thelma Walton Hayes of Gatesville, NC, Selma Riddick (Carlton) of Gatesville, NC, Sharon Walton Perry of Sunbury, NC, Connie Walton of Gates, NC, Nancy Walton of Sunbury, NC; two sons, Clifton Walton of Gatesville, NC, Harvey Walton (Victoria) of Waldorf, MD; 21 wonderful grandchildren, 39 precious great grandchildren, and eight great great grandchildren; four sisters, Ruth Rountree of Waterbury, CT, Carrie Holley of Sunbury, NC, Rayal Dillard of Sunbury, NC, Minnie Britt of Tyner, NC; three brothers, McCoy Rountree of Tyner, NC, Thurman Rountree (Miranda) of Charlotte, NC, George Rountree (Ida) of Woodbridge, VA; one sister-in-law, Rose Rountree of Alexandria, VA;  along with a host of other relatives and friends.

Lois was a devoted mother who was not only patient and beautiful but a supportive, humble, and grateful woman. She was also known to be understanding, attentive, a great listener, respectful, and ever so loving. She was a mother to many, a sister, an aunt, a niece, a cousin, a friend, but most importantly she was a Soldier of God. She will be dearly missed by all but her memories will live on forever through her family.
