Lorraine Lester

Lorraine Petteway Lester was born on June 6, 1956 to the late Ralph Petteway and Lucy Thomas of New Bern, NC.  Lorraine accepted Jesus Christ when she was a teenager. She had a loving relationship with Jesus. Lorraine was a caring and loving person to everyone she met. She had a beautiful smile and personality.

Lorraine had a strong desire to see her church family on Sunday, January 8, 2023. She and her husband, David were in the House of Worship loving, learning and  listening to the Word of God. Lorraine had a special love for her Pastors, Apostle Fisher & Pastor Tonja Fisher and the entire family of Blanchard's Grove Baptist Church.

Lorraine attended public schools in New Bern, NC. She also received a degree in Pottery and Forestry from  Haywood Technical College in the Appalachian  Mountains of North Carolina. She always participated in church activities and outings until her health began to decline. Lorraine loved her husband, David and her daughter, Christine tremendously.  Lorraine had a saying, “You make a living by what you earn, you make a life by what you give.”

Lorraine leaves to cherish her wonderful memories: her husband, David Lester of the home, one daughter, Christine Lester of Manteo, NC; one godson, eJaeCole Johnson,  two sisters, Geraldine Petteway of Charleston, South Carolina and Faye Petteway of Mount Olive, NC;  two brothers-in-law,   Michael Johnnie of Valley, Alabama and Timothy Lester of Valley Alabama; three sisters-in-law, Deborah Embry of Orlando, Florida, Mary Ann Cross of Cape Canaveral, Florida and Suzanne Minnick of Louisville, Kentucky; two nephews, Richard and William Avery (wife, Jamie); a very special sister and brother, Diane and Ray Brothers; a new adopted family,  Mother Jessie Basnight and the late James Basnight where she inherited seven sisters and brothers through this divine connection, a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She also leaves behind her dogson “Sage”.

The family will receive family and friends for a viewing and visitation on Friday January 13, 2023 from 3:00pm-6:00pm.  A celebration of life will take place on Saturday January 14, 2023 at 11:00am at Blanchards Grove Baptist Church.
