Margaret Brown Obituary

“Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints”

                       Psalm 116:15

Margaret Elizabeth Brown was born on January 19, 1938 to the late Garfield and Lee Etta Brinkley in Hobbsville, NC.  She took the hand of Jesus and departed this life on Sunday, November 17, 2019.

Margaret lived a beautiful full life. She was educated at Keys Fork School in Hobbsville, NC.  After her education, she began her career as a seamstress at the Don Juan Shirt Factory in Hertford, NC and maintained her position until she retired.

Margaret was a person who loved to tell jokes. She loved to laugh and to bring laughter to others around her. Her children would often tease her and say “Mama, you are so nosey”, she would smirk and respond, “For your information, I am not nosey, I am just concerned.” She loved spending time with her family. One of the main prayers that Margaret prayed was “Lord, keep me around long enough to see all of my children grown and doing okay in life.” The Lord answered her prayer.

Margaret’s favorite thing to do was play BINGO! She enjoyed spending time competing for prizes with her family and friends while playing “BINGO!” She also loved good gospel music, loved to sing and was a faithful member of the Joppa Missionary Baptist Church choir where she served faithfully for many, many years until her health began to decline. A favorite song many would love hearing her sing was “I Am a Living Testimony!”

Margaret was predeceased by her brothers, Curtis and Charlie Brinkley;  son, Charlie Brown; daughter,  Linda Brown; grandson, Officer Jeremy Brown and sister-in-law, Cherry Jean Brinkley.

Margaret will be truly missed by her family, extended family and friends.

She leaves to cherish her memories: three sons, Willie “Snowball” Brown of Brooklyn, NY, Stephen Brinkley (Bernice) of Hertford, NC, and Bernice Brinkley of Sunbury, NC.; eight daughters, Jeanetta “Sis” Brown of Greenville, NC., Janice Brinkley (Idell) of Sacramento, Ca., Dianne Brown, Mary Henry, and Brenda Jordan (David) of Sunbury, NC, Sheila Brown of Hertford, NC., Margaret Knight (Dennis) and Cathy Blow of Gates, NC.
