Martha Beamon Obituary

Martha Marie Cross Beamon, 85, was born in Nansemond County on March 23, 1935 to the late Hilton and Linda Givens Cross. After many illnesses, she departed this earthly life on Thursday, July 22, 2021 at Sentara Obici Hospital, Suffolk, Va.

From the early age of 15, Martha resided in Suffolk, Va. She joined New Piney Wood Baptist Church and was united in Holy Matrimony by the late Reverend E.M. Lewis on August 13, 1960 to the late Percy Lee Beamon. Martha remained a member until her death.

In her earlier years, she was an avid piano player. Martha was employed with Producers Peanut Company in Suffolk, Va for approximately 35 years.

Martha had a loving spirit; however, she was straightforward and did not entertain nonsense.

When Martha’s health began to fail her and she could no longer properly care for herself, she became a resident of Accordius Health at Nansemond Pointe in Suffolk, Va. She resided there until her death.

Martha was a skilled player in the games of Candy Crush and Bingo.

Preceding Martha in death, is her husband, her parents, brothers: James Cross, Lilton Cross, Frank Cross, Roy Cross, Lewis Cross, George Cross, and sisters: Mary Copeland, Florence Eure, Bertha Collins, and Louise Jones.

Left to cherish her precious memories: two sisters, Bernice (Rev. David) Wiggins, and Ida C. Rountree, both of Gates, NC, a special niece, Elder Cynthia Cross Riddick, who served as a caregiver to her, a great niece, Mae Edwards, a special nephew, Frank Cross, Jr., who would transport her to church, and a good friend, Eugene Fenner, who would prepare meals for her. She also leaves a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

A viewing and visitation will take place on Monday July 26, 2021 from 3:00pm-6:00pm at the funeral home.  A celebration of life will be held on Tuesday July 27, 2021 at New Piney Wood Chapel Baptist Church cemetery at 11:00am.
