Marton Preston Obituary

Marton Preston was born on February 16, 1938, in Franklin County, Virginia. He was born to the late Helen Estelle A. Preston. Marton was preceded in death by one daughter, Annette Estes.

He transitioned peacefully from this life to his eternal home on Tuesday, May 2, 2023, at BridgePoint Hospital National Harbor, Washington, DC.

Marton was educated at Lovely Valley School, in Franklin County, Virginia. He relocated to Washington, DC at a young age.

He was a true businessman. He purchased his own bus and on one of his trips he met the love of his life, Vincene and they were married for 38 years. After some time, he decided to give up long distance bus trips and traded his bus for dump trucks. In addition to owning his own dump trucks he worked as a heavy equipment operator belonging to Local 77—he was one of the best! Marton was a “jack of all trades.” He could build and fix anything. One of the highlights he was most proud of was when he remodeled the inside of Lighthouse Christian Church, in Suitland, MD, where he was a member for more than 18 years.

Marton was a friendly person who loved the little children. Later in life he was introduced to Cavarious, who he affectionately called “Baby.” He brought him so much joy. He even allowed “Baby” to shave him at age three, and he also taught him all about tools. Preston never met a stranger. You would see him riding his scooter around the neighborhood, you could say that he was the neighborhood watch.

Marton Preston leaves to cherish his memories: his devoted wife, Vincene Preston, three children, Morden Preston of Rocky Mount, VA; Mary Preston of FL; Kathy Smith of Norfolk, VA; one sister Nannie Spencer, Franklin County, VA; one Godson LeeLee of MD; nine grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.

A viewing will take place on Saturday, May 13, 2023 at Royal Oak Pentecostal Church from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM and A Celebration of Life will follow at 11:00 AM.
