Mary S. Johnson

Mary Sue Johnson was born to the parents of Nathaniel Knight and Louise Bellamy on February 13, 1940, in Gates County, N.C. She departed this life on September 13, 2023.

She was employed at Norfolk General Hospital and she retired from there in 1995.

At the age of 83, Mary was a lovely mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt. She was a faithful member of Union Branch Baptist Church in Corapeake, NC under the leadership of Pastor Nathaniel Thomas. She served dutifully as the church mother.

Battling many chronic and terminal diseases, Mary Sue Johnson was a fighter of great strength.

She was predeceased by her ex-husband, Henry Johnson, Sr., and two daughters, Sarah Johnson Boone and      Deborah Johnson.

Her precious memories will continue to live on in her children: Patricia Knight Elliott (Steve Elliott) of South Mills, NC, Calvin Lee Knight of Corapeake, NC, Mary L. Johnson of Corapeake, NC, Ruth Johnson (William  Johnson) of Suffolk, Va, Mildred Johnson Dent (Darryl Dent) of Corapeake, NC, Tammie Johnson Peebles (Chuck Peebles) of Ahoskie, NC, Henry Johnson, Jr. (Annie Johnson) of Corapeake, NC; many grandchildren; sisters; Sarah Lindsay of Portsmouth Va, Joyce Knight of Corapeake, NC, Berta Mae Wise of Arlington, Va, and Dorothy White of Portsmouth, Va., along with a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.

A viewing and visitation will take place on Thursday September 21, 2023, at the funeral home from 3pm-6pm.

A celebration of life service will be held on Friday September 22, 2023, 11am at Upper Room Assembly Church.  Final resting place for Ms. Johnson will be at Union Branch Church Cemetery.
