Patrice Matthews-Faison Obituary

Patrice Matthews-Faison was born on January 25, 1982 in Waterbury, CT.  She was the daughter of Shari Wilson (Reggie) and Calvin Ferguson.  She entered eternal rest on Friday, January 22, 2021.

Patrice spent her early years in Connecticut, where she attended St. Mary’s Elementary School. During her teenage years, Patrice moved to Gates County and graduated with the class of 2000 from Gates County High School. After high school, Patrice attended NC A & T State University in Greensboro.

Growing up in Christ at an early age, Patrice was an active member at Zion Baptist Church in Waterbury. Upon moving to Gates County, she joined New Hope Missionary Baptist Church in Gatesville, NC. After rededicating her life to Christ, Patrice became a disciple of the Greater Saunders Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Hertford, NC where she was a member of the Praise Team Ministry.

Patrice was employed with Rivers Correctional Institution for 16 years. She served as a correctional officer, unit clerk, unit counselor, case manager and her last position held was that of a housing unit manager.

Patrice was preceded in death by her loving maternal grandparents, Jesse (Poochie) & Mary (Maisie) Matthews, and Jesse (Thadd) Matthews, Jr., her uncle.

On June 26, 2015, Patrice was joined in holy matrimony to Davon Faison, Sr.

Patrice’s earthly treasures were her three children, who she cared for and loved dearly. She was a believer of Psalms 127:3, that says “Children are indeed a heritage from the LORD; they are a real blessing”. She was an advocate for all children, women, and people in general regardless of who they were. Patrice was a messenger in her own right and not only shared the Word of God, but she also was informative to the public about her own son’s battle of MIS-C ensuring that every parent and child would know the symptoms.

She would  feed the hungry in Ahoskie, NC, provide meals for the GCHS basketball team and if someone was selling plates, she would buy plates to feed the residents of the local nursing home. At any given time, she would send a card, gift, text message, etc., to someone. She was a giver with a big heart.  Her smile would radiate any room. Her laughter was contagious and she would have you laughing and you would not even know what was funny.

Her life exemplified the goodness of Christ and through her daily living, others were drawn to Christ. Patrice lived a full and energetic life and she has left a legacy of love and kindness.

Left to cherish her memories:  her husband, Davon Faison, Sr.; her children: Ariana Matthews, Clinton Mizelle, III, and Davon Faison, Jr.; Co-parenting team: Anthony (Christee) White and Clinton Mizelle, Jr.; stepchildren: Day’Vion Faison, Davontae Faison, Dakota Faison, and Dariyah Tann; her mother: Shari, and her husband, Reggie Wilson, her father, Calvin Ferguson, and daddy, Eloi DaGraca; five brothers: Dexter Wilson, Dexter Barnett, Reggie Wilson, Jr., Corey Ferguson, and Calvin Ferguson, Jr.; nine sisters: Tyreese Strong, Rashawn Wilson, Ragean Wilson, RaJhai Spencer, Sade Akem, Chanel Jones, LaShaya Collins, Cannea Ferguson, and Cateri Palmieri; mother-in-law, Grace Lloyd; special uncle and aunt, Lee and Kristal Brooks; forever friend, Chante Jordan; Code Yellow: Susanne Stallings, Courtnay Jordan, Claudette Smith, and Rondeshya Cosby; a special friend, Wendy Hall; the 37 Crew which includes her two selected brothers, Justin Davis and Shannon Davis, along with a host of other aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends
