Richard Goodman answered God’s call to his heavenly home through a peaceful transition to eternal life on March 16, 2025. Richard was the second child born on October 14, 1936, to the late Isaiah and Arzula Goodman. Richard was preceded in death by his siblings: Bernice, Lee, Annie, and James and his grandson, Marcus Alan. His surviving sibling is his brother, Willie Mack Goodman who resides in California.
Richard accepted Christ into his life at a young age and joined New Middle Swamp Missionary Baptist Church where he served as an Usher, Sunday School Superintendent, Deacon, (more than 35+ years). In addition, he was a choir member in his later years.
He joined the Prince Hall Masons over 50+ years ago. He, like many, worked several jobs. He retired from Newport News Shipbulding & Drydocking Company after working 38 years. He wasn’t much on sports, but boy did he love fishing. He also dabbled with photography; for his relaxation, he enjoyed watching westerns and wrestling.
He leaves to cherish his memory to: his loving wife of 61 years, Frances Lee; one daughter: A Rachelle (Robert) of Durham, North Carolina; two sons: Richard (Rick) also of Durham, North Carolina, and Cameron of Gatesville, North Carolina; one brother: Willie Mack (Willa) of Temecula, California; two other sisters-in-law: Susie Riddick of Corapeake, North Carolina and Mary Eason of Gatesville, North Carolina; additional family, grandchildren: Cameron, Santana, Cannon, Zakai, Nakia and several nieces, nephews, and cousins
Richard's life and legacy will be honored this weekend. A viewing and visitation will be held on Saturday, March 22, 2025, from 3:00pm to 6:00pm at the funeral home. His funeral service will take place on Sunday, March 23, 2025, at 2:00pm at New Middle Swamp Baptist Church. Final resting place for Mr. Goodman will be at the New Middle Swamp Church Cemetery.
