Richard “Big Mac” McCoy Walton passed away on January 2, 2023 at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital surrounded by his family. He was born in Hobbsville, NC to the late Nelson and Nattle Walton on September 23, 1948.
Richard attended Gates County Public Schools. He later went to work for the Ford Company in Sunbury, NC. He was also employed at Newport News Shipyard for 28 years until his health began to fail.
On June 8, 1981, Richard married his wife, Hollistine and to this union they had one son and two daughters.
He was a devoted father and husband. He enjoyed the outdoors, working in his shed and caring for his animals.
Richard was preceded in death by his mother, Nattle Walton; father, Nelson Walton; brother, Thomas Walton, and sister, Vanzy Parker.
He leaves to cherish his fond memories: his wife, Hollistine Walton, three children: Tony Lane (Keisha) of Belvidere, NC, Felisha Walton of the home and Jennifer Gregory (Ladawn) of Belvidere, NC; three grandchildren: Se’Quan Parker, Ta’Marion Parker and Jeniyah Lane of Belvidere, NC; four sisters: Barbara Walton of Hobbsville, NC, Shirley Jordan (David) of Hobbsville, NC, Delois Walton of Tyner and Doris Walton of Tyner, NC. Five brothers: Nelson Walton of Elizabeth City, NC, Fentress Walton (Sheba) of Gatesville, NC, Grady Walton of Gatesville, NC, Robert Walton (Evelyn) of Corapeake, NC and Waylon Walton of Hobbsville, NC; Brothers-in-law, Elder Vernon Lane (Margaret) of New York, and Alonzo Kee of Connecticut; Sister-in-law, Doris Lane of Belvidere, NC; Special Caretakers: William Kee and Michael Kee of Hobbsville, NC, a very special niece whom he loved as a daughter, Sheila Stallings (Kelly) of Belvidere, NC and a host of other nieces, nephews, and friends.
Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Saturday, January 7, 2023 from 3pm - 6pm.
A Celebration of Life will take place at Joppa Missionary Baptist Church on Sunday, January 8, 2023 at 2 pm.
