Roland J Cross

Sending prayers of comfort to the family of Roland J. Cross, 72, of Gates, N.C.  

On Monday, October 2, 2017, Roland Cross was called home from labor to reward. He was born on August 8, 1945 to the late Daisy Blanche Cross and Norman Watson.

He was married to Fannie Alene Knight Cross, who preceded him in death on March 16, 2004.

He worked as a butcher for 28 years with Virginia Packing Company. He loved butchering meat. He also enjoyed talking on the CB under the handle "Carolina Slick."

He was  preceded in death by three brothers, Alvin Boone, Howard Boone, Hollis Boone and two sisters, Evelyn Jones and Vivian Barnes.

He leaves to cherish his memories, a daughter, Dorothy Knight (Charles); three Stepsons, William Knight (Barbara), Ronald Knight (Barbara) of Gates, NC and Thomas Knight of Gatesville; two Stepdaughters, Yvonne Cross (James) of Gates, NC and Joyce Young of Memphis, TN; four sisters, Janice Boone, Bertha Boone (Bonnie, Jr.) and Margaret Cross (McEll) all of Gates, NC, Georgia Hicks of Suffolk, Va; and Odell Boone of Brooklyn, NY.  two brothers, James Cross (Yvonne) of Gates, NC and Thomas Boone (Angenita) of Greensboro, NC;  two brothers-in-law, Charlie Knight (Jean) and Herman Batts, Sr. of Gates, NC and four sisters-in-law, Christine Knight of Ahoskie, NC, Marian Knight of Gates, NC, Carla Boone of Hampton, Va; and Karin Boone of Woonsocket, RI; two goddaughters, Emma Knight of Eure, NC and Frances Chamblee of Sunbury, NC; along with a host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
