Roosevelt Rush, Sr. Obituary

Roosevelt Rush, Sr. was born on April 26, 1939, in Alabama and passed away peacefully on April 25, 2025—just one day shy of his 86th birthday. He was surrounded by the love and comfort of his family in North Carolina.

Roosevelt dedicated 42 years of service as a heavy machine operator at Carusso Brothers. After retiring, he and his beloved wife Paulette relocated to North Carolina in 2010, where they continued building a life together.

Known for his quiet strength and unwavering grace, Roosevelt truly fought the good fight. He had a deep and special bond with his son, Roosevelt Jr., lovingly known as "Junior." Though he loved all of his children, he often affectionately said, “That’s my boy, I love him to death,” bringing a smile to everyone’s face. We would smile and say, “Ok”. He also shared a sweet connection with his special niece, Ja’Niyah, whom he lovingly called “Little Mama.”

Roosevelt had a passion for the outdoors—especially cutting grass and working on cars. He even made sure his wife Paulette knew a thing or two about fixing cars herself, often by his side. After a long day in the yard, you could always count on him to enjoy a good cup of coffee—any time of the day. He also loved one of his favorite meals: porgy fish.

He cherished long talks with his late father-in-law, Mr. Henry Bailey Jordan, reminiscing about the "good old days." He also enjoyed the company of dear friends Bobby White and Charles Lawrence.

Roosevelt is survived by his loving wife, Paulette Rush, and his children: Marzetta Rush, Delores Gordon (Dennis), Juanita Rush, Theresa Bryant (Benjamin), Michael Rush, and Terrence Rush.
He leaves behind cherished grandchildren: Keith Allen, Samuel Rush, Toby Hurley, Brittany Gordon, Donte Davis, Dennis Gordon Jr., Chelsie Butler, Keniece Pierce, Shameka Staley, Demetrius Staley, and Stephen Lee Starnes. He is also survived by his sisters, Ocelia and Florence, and his brothers: Enoch, Daniel, Lindsey, Roger, and Steven; Sisters-in-law: Patricia Parks and Doris Holley (Herman) of Hobbsville, NC.

Roosevelt’s legacy continues through a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends who will miss him dearly.

He is preceded in death by his son, Roosevelt Rush Jr.; grandson, Jordan Davis; stepson, Marquis Jordan;  parents, Cora and Enoch Rudolph; and his brother, Fred.

Roosevelt’s memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. His kindness, love, and generosity will be remembered and cherished always.
