Sarah Lee Boone was born August 5, 1969 to Mary Sue Johnson and the late Henry Johnson, Sr. She departed this earthly life on February 8, 2023 at her residence in Sunbury, North Carolina. A life-long resident of Gates County, Sarah was married to Rufus Boone, Jr.
She was a member of Miracle Temple Deliverance Church in Corapeake, NC under the leadership of Pastor George Ralph. She was educated in the Gates County Public School System. She attended Gates County High School until her sophomore year. Sarah was a lovely person who left a legacy of the true meaning of LOVE. She loved everyone and she touched so many hearts. The Bible reminds us of God’s most important commandment which is to love HIM with all your heart, soul, and mind, showing love to others, love your neighbor, feed those that are hungry and thirsty, and give clothes to those in need. THAT IS WHAT SARAH DID!
Those preceding her in death were her mother-in-law and father-in-law, Essie Mae Boone and Rufus Boone, Sr.; two sisters-in-law, Christine Harrell, and Delores Collier.
She leaves a lifetime of love and memories to her husband, Rufus Boone; her children, Debra Johnson and Jessica Johnson, Sunbury, NC; Keith Johnson, Corapeake, NC and Camron Hurdle, Sunbury, NC; her mother, Mary Sue Johnson, Corapeake, NC; six sisters, Patricia Elliott (Steve) South Mills, NC, Mary Johnson, Corapeake, NC, Ruth Johnson (William), Suffolk, VA, Mildred Dent (Darryl), Corapeake, NC, Tammie Peebles (Lee), Ahoskie, NC and Tanya Burke, Portsmouth, VA; three brothers, Calvin Lee Knight and Henry Johnson, Jr., Corapeake, NC, Calvin Knight, Portsmouth, VA; eight grandchildren, De’montae Johnson, Radasia Simmons, Jacarin Rountree, Myah Rountree, Leah Rountree, Imaya Johnson, Aubrey Johnson, and Amari Widbee; five aunts, and many other family members and friends.

May the road rise up to meet us,
May the wind be always at our back,
May the sunshine warm upon our face,
And may the rains fall soft upon your fields until we meet again.
May God hold us in the palm of His Hand in Jesus’ name.
