Sherry Lynn Brickhouse transitioned peacefully on December 26, 2024, with her family lovingly by her side. She faced her illness with the resilience and courage of a true fighter, inspiring all who knew her with her determination and steadfast spirit. Sherry spent the final months of her life residing with her daughter spending quality time with her grandchildren, Bryson, Antoine, Tyler, and Dalanie. She was born in Sunbury, North Carolina on March 30, 1960 to Dallas and Thelma Alexander Brickhouse.
Sherry was educated in the Gates County School system – graduating from Gates County High School in 1978. She married shortly after and two children were born to this union, Dennis S. Lassiter, III and Chante L. Jordan.
Sherry earned her Associates Degree in Early Childhood Development and Special Education from Roanoke Chowan Community College and opened her own licensed child care home in 1986. Affectionately known as “Granny”, Sherry Brickhouse educated young minds and instilled a love for learning in every child under her care. She supported children and families in Gates County for over 25 years. Sherry often shared fond memories of her time in childcare. “I learned from them just as much as they learned from me. As babies they brought joy but to see them as successful adults touches my heart in a more special way.” In 2012 she retired from childcare due to health reasons but never lost her love to inspire, teach, and pour into the lives of others.
Sherry was proceeded in death by her parents, Dallas and Thelma, four siblings, Cassandra, Shelton, Dottie, and Dallas, and her son Dennis S. Lassiter III.
She leaves to cherish her memories, one daughter, Chante (Steven) Jordan, nine grandchildren (Tiaheem, Tyvonn, Mark, Pamela, Dennis IV, Bryson, Antoine, Tyler, and Dalanie), eight great grandchildren, ten brothers and sisters (Barbara (William) Knight, Joann (Lloyd) Howell, Rufus (Carrie)Brickhouse, Paulette Brickhouse, William “Bill” (Rose) Brickhouse, Charles Covington, Norris (Claudia) Brickhouse, Freda (Randy) Melton, Renee (Sam) Askew, and Gregory Brickhouse), a special friend, Allen Locke and a beloved chihuahua, (Ziggy).
Above all Sherry’s life was defined by sharing inspiration and joy in Christ. She will be remembered for her unwavering love to her children and grandchildren; her free and nurturing spirit, her love for cooking, and her passion for animals, plants, and all things nature. Her life was a testament to faith and devotion, and her legacy will live on in the hearts of those she cherished most.
