On Thursday, May 14, 2026, God in His infinite wisdom called Steve Larmont Eaton to his Heavenly home. He peacefully transitioned from this life at Sentara CarePlex Hospital in Hampton, VA surrounded by his loving family. He was born on January 16, 1962, to the late John Eaton, Jr. and Nannie Lee Vinson Eaton in Ahoskie, NC, but was raised in Kelford.
He attended public schools in Bertie and graduated from Bertie High School with a diploma. Upon the completion of high school, he started his career at Perdue Farms in Lewiston where he met his wife, Ann. He was known by the name of Stepping Easy and he won his wife’s heart with his charm and his clean Monte Carlo. He left Perdue and was later employed at Newport News Shipbuilding and Drydock, Co. (now known as Huntington Ingalls Industry). He worked as a forklift driver for over 10 years until he retired.
He joined Mt. Sinai Church of God of Murfreesboro under the leadership of Bishop Arthur Clark. He was known for his kind heart, humble spirit and joyful personality. His radiant smile left a lasting impression on all whom he encountered. No matter where you saw him, he was always the same. He never changed. He enjoyed car racing, watching his favorite football team (Commanders), and spending time with his family, but most of all, he loved the Lord!
Preceding him in death were his loving wife, Ruth Ann Spruill Eaton; his brothers, Donnie Eaton and Kelvin Eaton; and one sister, Inez Ruffin.
He leaves to cherish his memories: two daughters, Shanese Harrell (William) of Portsmouth, VA and Schnell Riddick of Newport News, VA; two sons, Stephen Watson of Windsor, NC and Travis Spruill (Sharita) of Atlanta, GA; six grandchildren: Stephon Watson, Jaiden Spruill, Madison Wilson, Lailah Spruill, Gianna Harrell and Kyrie Harrell.
He is survived by one sister, Julia R Jackson of Temple Hill, MD; one brother, John T. Eaton of Kelford, NC, six nieces: Detrich Wilson (Tim) of Suffolk, VA, Delinia Weaver (Michael) of Fayetteville, GA, Gwen Ruffin of Waldorf, MA, Angela Russell of Waldorf, MA, Julia Eaton of Raleigh, NC, Tabitha Eaton Monroe (William) of Killeen,TX; two nephews: Raymond Eaton of Kelford, NC, Donovan B. Jackson of Houston, TX; a host of sisters-in law, brothers-in law, loving aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends.
A viewing and visitation will take place on Friday May 22, 2026, at the funeral home from 4pm to 7pm.
A celebration of life service will take place on Saturday May 23, 2026, 12 noon at Mount Sinai Church of God in Murfreesboro.
Final resting place will be at New Middle Swamp Church cemetery.
