Thelma Mullen-Petty (Goodman) 87 years old, was called home to be with the Lord on Sunday July 23, 2023.
The daughter of the late Curtis Goodman and Ruth (Boone) Goodman, she was the wife of the late Horace Alton Mulled and George Charles Petty.
Beloved mother of one daughter Lorraine D, Winston, 3 grandchildren Pechina, Alton, Princess. 6 great grandchildren, DeWayne, Ashley, Amira, Anasia, Nathaniel, Gerald.
Sister Petty was educated by the Public Schools In Gates County, N.C. She was a member of Zion Tabernacle Baptist Church in N.C. at a young age where she became an usher and joined the choir.
She later joined in holy matrimony with the love of her life Alton Horace Mullen and they soon moved to Waterbury, CT. where they had one child. She became a member of Zion Baptist Church and joined the Pastor Aid Society, which she loved.
Sister Petty was employed as a housekeeper, and worked for ITW as an assembly line worker until her retirement.
After the passing of her first husband of twenty years, she married George Petty and they eventually moved to Suitland, MD to be closer to her grandchildren whom she adored with every beat of her heart.
She soon joined Matthews Memorial Baptist Church in early 2000, where she became members with her sister, Elsie and Sam Jones. She served, glorified, praised and worshipped the Lord until her passing in the church where she praised and worshipped GOD.
Born in Holland, VA, raised in Corapeake, NC., she was the oldest of 10 children. Sister Petty leaves to cherish her memory three sisters, Mrs. Elsie Jones (Samuel) of Washington DC, Ms. Hilda Jackson of Oxon Hill MD, Mrs. Linda Bowens (James) of Waterbury, CT. She is predeceased by three brothers, Curtis (Margie), Alton (Lula Mae), William (Ethel), and three sisters Hattie (George), Betty (Shelton), Frances and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. A special nephew, Ricky Jones who she always wished was her son.

A service of Celebration for a beautiful life well lived will take place on Wednesday August 2, 2023, at Matthews Memeorial Baptist Church located at 2616 Martin Luther King Jr. Ave Southeast Washington, DC 20020. The viewing and visitation will start at 10am, and services starting promptly at 11am.
Following the services in Washington DC, Mrs. Petty will be escorted back to her hometown in North Carolina for a graveside service and final resting place.
A graveside service will take place on Saturday August 5, 2023, 10am at Zion Tabernacle Church Cemetery in Corapeake, North Carolina.
