God, give us the strength to face the coming days with love and understanding in the absence of our loved one. On August 16, 2024, at 6:20 AM, Thomas Leslie Hall departed this life at ECU Health in Greenville, N.C. He was born on January 22, 1946, to the late Joe Henry and Frances Hall. Thomas was the eighth child of ten children. He was preceded in death by five brothers and one sister, Joseph, Claude, Charlie, James, John and Virginia.
Thomas was a member of Sycamore Hill AME Zion Church where he served on the steward and trustee boards. He loved the Lord and was always willing to testify about “How Good God Is.”
On August 29, 1966, he married Rita Knight. To this union, two daughters were born, Kristen and Courtney. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend. He always put others first with no thought of himself. To Thomas, there were no strangers. He was generous, kind and well respected in the community.
Thomas attended Central High School. He built a career working for thirty years at Newport News Shipbuilding where he was a supervisor for eighteen years. He also owned T.L. Hall Trucking for approximately 8 years. After retirement, Thomas opened Gates County Seafood Market for five years.
Thomas had a deep passion for cutting hair, a tradition that had been passed down through his family. He began at a young age and continued until the arrival of COVID forced him to stop. His clients would often linger after their haircuts, chatting with him for hours.
He leaves precious memories and his beautiful smile to his wife, Rita of 57 ½ years of the home; two daughters, Kristen (Bruce) of Zebulon, NC and Courtney of Raleigh, NC; three grandchildren, Kendall, Kelton and Kellsie of Zebulon, NC; one great-grandson, Kai, of Zebulon, NC; three sisters, Susie Riddick of Corapeake, NC; Frances Goodman (Richard) and Mary Eason of Gatesville, NC; one sister-in-law, Rhonda Riddick (Darrell) of Gates, NC; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Sleep on Thomas and take your rest. We love you, but God loves you best.
The family will receive family and friends of the community on Wednesday August 21, 2024 from 4:00pm-6:00pm at the funeral home. A celebration of life will be held at New Hope Missionary Baptist Church on Thursday August 22, 2024 at 12:00pm. Mr. Hall's final resting place will be at New Hope Missionary Baptist Church.
