Willie Haywood Rountree of Sunbury, NC departed this life on Sunday, June 6, 2021 at his physical home enroute to his heavenly home in Heaven.
He was educated in Chowan County Public School System and graduated from Gates County High School in the Class of 1968.
After completing high school, he went to New York City and got a job at the police department as a clerk. He worked there until his retirement in 1976. Once back in North Carolina, he worked at Atlantic Forest in Edenton, NC until the facility closed.
Billy was a generous and mild tempered person. He enjoyed yard work and visiting his family.
Billy was preceded in death by his parents, Hazel and Mary Elizabeth Rountree, also a nephew, Christopher DeShan Rountree, whom he helped to rear.
Billy leaves to cherish his memories, his loving, caring and devoted wife of 50 years, Clementine Rountree; two sisters, Ida Mae Rountree and Catherine Rountree, New Haven, CT; one brother, Johnnie Lee Rountree (Mary), New Haven, CT; five sisters-in-law, Delsie Happer, Chesapeake, Va., Pallas Purvis (Thurman), Stephanie Patterson (Marshall III), Vanessa Wilson (Gordon) all of Winston Salem, NC, and Clarissa Thompson, Jackson, FL; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
The family will receive friends and members of the community for a viewing and visitation on Saturday June 12, 2021 from 4:00pm-7:00pm. A celebration of life will be held on Sunday June 13, 2021 at Greater Welch Baptist Church at 1:00pm. The final resting place for Mr. Rountree will be at the church cemetery.
